Laboratories
at NPI
1. MOVEMENT DISORDERS LABORATORY
This laboratory was established in 1989 in response
to a need for neurophysiological and quantitative measurements of
drug-induced movements. The laboratory is equipped with instrumentation
which is capable to acquire and analyse quantitative data from involuntary
movements and muscle activity produced by patients.
2. NEUROIMAGING LABORATORY
This laboratory was established in 1991 in response
to a need for the assessment of brain images. The laboratory has
a SGI Workstation (Indy) which runs the software ANALYZE from Mayo
Foundation, through a collaborative arrangement with Mayo clinic
and a SUN Sparc Workstation (IPX). The SGI Workstation also runs
a software package called BRAINS which was designed to do neuroimage
visualization/analysis from the University of Iowa (Dr N Andreassen).
Several Windows workstations have been recently purchased to run
ANALYZE, SPM (Matlab based) etc. The laboratory has capability of
acquiring and analysing brain images obtained form different modalities
such as CT, SPECT, MRI, PET. We have recently started 1H MRS applications.
This Lab is a major resource for a number of clinical and research
projects, in particular relating to epilepsy, dementia, schizophrenia
and movement disorders. We use SPM and FSL to analyse functional
brain scans. (Contact Dr. W. Wen for more details: 93823724)
3. NEUROPSYCHOLOGY LABORATORY
This laboratory is equipped with a range
of material, both paper-and-pencil and computerised, to perform
neuropsychological assessments. Over the years, it has grown into
a major resource for the investigation of various cognitive disorders,
and the expertise of this laboratory is sought by many clinicians.
